Lesson 6: Adding Player start and playing the game

This is a real easy step and you are only a minute away from playing the game you made.

In the left hand column (Library) select the tab for "Markers" and then double click the green arrow called "PlayerStart". Now just roll over to where you want your player to start and single click it in place.

That's everything. You have completed your very first game. Now run it by pressing the test level button on the menu bar near the top of the screen.

The game does a few things and before you know it you are playing right inside the world you created. I ran over and found my uzi then picked up my spare ammo clips and then tracked down the unarmed thugs. And well, you know what happened next!

Okay, within the course of just a few minutes you actually made a complete game and can you see how FPS Creator takes care of all the programming for you? You don't have to worry about ammo, making a gun, doing textures, aliens, enemies, thugs, running, jumping and all that other stuff. You can focus on making the game and exercising creativity.

Now of course FPS Creator is very powerful and there are lots and lots more things to do. I will be covering much more about this great game making tool But for now just have some fun and see what you come up with.

Now before we get into more of the design aspects of FPS let's look at some of the concepts of playability. This is important for you to know because when you are designing a game you want it to be fun, challenging and rewarding for your player. I have put together several pages that walk-thru a game I made with FPS creator. These pages explain some of the playability concepts of video games. There is also a video that walks you through the game and I voice over the concepts.
